“...AROUND THE CORNER...ART IS MADE” Festival Dates: Early October — San Diego, California;  Late October — Venice, Italy For its 11th season NWEAMO investigates euphemism in art. Censorship has always been a problem for artists, who have a mandate to point out hypocrisy, foolishness, pomposity, the duplicity of leaders and emperors with no clothes.  This often gets them into trouble with those in power.  In times of social constraint the way around it has always been to speak between the lines, to couch criticism within metaphor, weave children's stories and nonsense rhymes with hidden meanings (Mother Goose), or unhidden meanings that, by their cleverness shine a caustic beam of ironic light, revealing chicanery while playfully sticking out the tongue.  And occasionally thumbing the nose without the oppressor even realizing they are being made fun of (The Colbert Report)...
